Slimming Down? Munch on Cereal
New research says that eating cereal in addition to a nutritious diet is the key to shedding extra pounds. But not just any kind of cereal: Crunch on whole-grain cereal . In a study, people who ate whole-grain cereal as part of their weight-loss plan tended to get more essential nutrients, compared to the people who dieted with less hearty fare. Not surprisingly, the whole-grain-cereal noshers got more fiber, magnesium, and vitamin B6 -- nutrients that whole grains are fairly bursting with. But whole grain doesn't always equal fiber. Look for fiber on the label and shoot for 3 + grams per serving.
