Meeting Minutes:

Introductions

 2008 Media Initiative: Deb Millsap

                Deb explained the new 2008 Media Initiative (see 2008 Media Initiative form on HPC website)

       Deb will send out info regarding HPC events and programs to media agencies on behalf of HPC

       HPC members can email health tips and it will be forwarded to the media list. Members are advised to have your contact info available on the tip for the media

       HPC members can forward health tips to their individual organizations

       Sybil will post the health tips on the HPC website

       The media initiative distribute info to all members

         Media tip form was distributed      

·        Deb explained how to fill it out and Sybil will email it as an attachment to HPC and make it available on website        

·        The members agreed on the initiative

     Naples Pathways Coalition: Deborah McCormick

·        Deborah told us about the “Pedaling for Pathways Bicycle Brunch” the Naples Pathways Coalition is holding on January 27th, 2008.  Flyers were distributed and a copy is on the website, so people can download it and share with others.

     Senior Expo – Save the date:  February 13th, 2008.  Contact Sybil if you’d like to get involved.

     Website Updates – after a few technical glitches, the website is now being updated frequently.  If you have anything you would like on the site, please send it to Sybil.

     Family Fitness Festival –  December 15th (per Kelly) Info on website

     Winter Wonderfest – December 15th – Info on website

Sybil will represent the Coalition at this event.

     Committee Member Updates

       Rand Bass- wants to reserve Jan for event

         Vision and Hearing Fair

·        January 11th 2008 at the Downtown Library from 10am- 2pm

·        Twyla- Mentioned importance of including info about protecting hearing and vision

·        Deb McCormick- mentioned parents concerns regarding the electronic devices children use and hearing loss

     Rand Mentioned that flyers that need to be distributed by the library will now be handled by Linda Fasulo, 593-3511

     Sharon would like February media campaign reserved for the Senior Expo

     Twyla asked for the month of September for School Nutrition for our media campaign

     Deborah McCormick – from Naples Pathway Coalition a 501C3 Nonprofit organize, it is an advocacy group and is not to be confused with a bicycling club. Any fees that are collected go to administrative costs.

       The Naples Pathway Coalition would like to make Naples a fun place to ride your bike

         Encourage outdoor activity in Naples and “Having fun outdoors with really cool people”

         Deborah distributed flyers for the Second Annual Pedaling for Pathways Bicycle Brunch

         Deb Ogden advised on how to distribute the flyers to the school children and to make a Power Point slide to put on the education channel

     Deb Ogden discussed issues regarding SHAC (Student health advisory committee) and establishing its members.  Suggested the Health Promotion Coalition’s Education subgroup could possibly serve as SHAC.

     Sheila Sheridan discussed the draft of the nutrition portion of the health objectives created by Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness

     Meeting was opened up to member updates:

       Rand Bass would like to implement a pedometer program at the senior annex and requested pedometers from the health department for this program

       Deb Millsap informed Rand that there hasn’t been any State obesity grants in over a year to provide the funds for program materials, however we are always looking for opportunities/ grants to help fund activities

       Sharon Downey informed the group that the Bone Builders project will be expanding and will have classes at Vineyards.  These are free classes for senior that have been diagnosed with osteoporosis

  Call to Action: Members are encouraged to pick a month in 2008 to highlight their services or an event they plan to host.
