Wellness Resources for Medical Professionals
Local Classes: Refer your patients to the Healthy Beginnings classes at if they need to lose weight, improve lipid profiles, or have pre-diabetes. Email Betsy Opyt at Physicians Regional Medical Center betsy.opyt@pmc.hma.org Diabetes Self Management Classes - Naples Community Hospital offers a way for patients to learn about the preventative measures to maintain a healthy blood sugar level. These classes offer a free glucometer and free wellness membership along with the program. Classes are located at both the North and South Wellness Centers and there is a reduced rate for spouses. Blood sugar will be re-checked after the seminar. For information on classes call 436-6755. Other classes are on the community resource page. Workouts at area parks. Next time you are prescribing exercise make it easy and increase compliance with this resource provided by FGCU students and the Health Promotion Coalition. These brochure offers beginning, intermediate and advanced workouts at four parks - Sugden, Vineyards, Golden Gate and Barefoot Beach. These workouts are free and convenient for your patients. Walkable and Bikeable Checklists. Another way to get patients active, and make the community a better place to live, is to offer walking and biking surveys. Patients go for a walk in their neighborhood and report their findings to the coalition (emails, address and phone numbers are in the brochure). The coalition will work with partners at the Department of Transportation, Parks and Recreation and the Community Traffic Safety Team to make our community healthier! Online Resources for Clients: Diabetes Education: This award-winning Link for Life tool uses computer animation to define diabetes and explain key components of the disease. It is VERY easy, good for low literacy and available in English and Spanish. The Link for Life animation was supported through an educational grant from GlaxoSmithKline.
